Youtube Series: Epic Meal Time

Sorry I haven't been posting. Been rather busy wasting time and playing PS3 rpgs. Here's a quick bit for the Youtube Series, focusing on one type of troll you may encounter in your travels.

On the contributor side, you may encounter those with the knowledge, talent and equipment necessary to make videos meant to offend someone, somehow and in some way. These can come in any form: ranging from the intensely stupid (such as a majority of webcam response videos, oh ho ho ho) to well funded, (somewhat) intellectual political commentary to even works of art that would feel at home in a movie festival. Some of it is meant to be funny, others not so much. If someone posts a comment out rage, that means there's trolling going on somewhere.

Alright, so knowledge and talent aren't necessary to be a contributing troll on Youtube. But equipment is necessary - can't make a video without a camera nor can you bring said video up to youtube without an internet connection. What the contributing troll does is essentially bring their face out in public and make some grand proclamation that'll tick someone off - the only difference being the fact that they do so from the relative safety of their monitor.

Here's a great example of a contributing troll: Epic Meal Time. Perhaps calling them trolls could be harsh - all they're doing is putting out something entertaining. In this day and age though, setting baby seals on fire before clubbing them to death with an oil-soaked penguin can be considered entertaining by many. Broad statement, but there's a point about the entertainment standard in there somewhere. Get off my case and keep reading.

The Trolls: A group of husky Canadians with a lot of money, arteries of steel and phenomenal cooking connections.

The intended Victim: Your weak sensibilities, your sense of restraint, Obese America, Human Arteries, (some) Vegitarians, Healthy Eating Habits. Anyone coming from a background of sympathy for those who lack food are most likely to find this offensive. Anyone who hates the western world would also find this high-octane fuel to keep their hate going, citing the culture as one of debauchery and excess.

The Method: Over the top meals and incredibly high production values given the subject matter.

Examples:

The Slaughterhouse - "A gingerbread house minus the gingerbread and replaced with slaughtered animals."

The Meat Salad - "Toss that meat salad."

The Black Legend - "All the cinnamon twists."
